keeping it cool....... WE SOLD OUT!

Yesterday we played to a sold out audience. It was a wonderful feeling to know that people had come out to see us. I have to say thank you to those people, and the ones that came before, for taking a chance, taking a trip and taking in the exhausting heat in that building.
The energy and engagement we felt from the audience as we performed only made our jobs that much easier.

In conclusion, I LOVE FRINGE!
The people are friendly and interested.
People want to hear about our show.
People will lean over and have a conversation with you in the beer gardens.
There is beer.
There are small children who play the violin very well and are building up their college funds on the grounds.
The mini donuts are abundant.
The atmosphere is ripe with creativity and laughter.
People came to see our dance show.

Don't miss our last three shows!

TAKE OFF

Check out VUE weekly Edmonton - page 5.
We open our show tomorrow and it's going to be fun. We had a technical rehearsal today with lights and props and music and a stage. Our Stage Manager keeps things running smoothly and our lighting designer is highlighting our talents. I have to say that I have confidence that anyone who comes to see this show will have their feet moving at some point. Oh yeah, we spent some time at the beer tent tonight. One night of many to come.

First Show:
2:15 pm @ Academy at King Edward ( brick school) 85th Ave and 101 St.
Come out to rock!

Three weeks till we take flight!

I am just coming down off my Toronto Fringe high. It was a wonderful festival, so full of theatre, dance and incredible support from family, friends and the community.

Just getting back into rehearsal mode and starting to pack for our travels across this country. Our postcards arrived two days ago and they look pretty awesome. I can say that because I didn't design them and they are very snazzy. I think that is the second time I've used that word on this blog. Perhaps I should read the dictionary.
Good news - no dictionary needed for Afternoon Delights and Emergency Exits. My piece about the lives four flight attendants live, both as we see them working and outside of their uniforms. As well, I've seen Kate Nankervis's solo and it is striking and stunning. Her unique and bold movements will be the perfect fit to this double-bill Fringe show!

Please tell anyone and everyone about this show. An hour full of energy, beauty, and fun. Can't wait to see you Edmonton.

rehearsing flying without seatbelts

At the end of rehearsal, all you really want your choreographer to do is take pictures of you.
These are my fabulous dancers (two outta three) that make my rehearsals not feel like work.

August 11-21, 2011 - Edmonton International Fringe Festival

Monday 6 June 2011

Design by Trung.

Booking and reserving, all movement to memory and sequencing the flight plan.
Afternoon Delights and Emergency Exits is slowly coming together, piece by piece, being well-oiled and meticulously scanned for audience intrigue and dancer satisfaction, all in anticipation for Edmonton International Fringe Festival. That, was a lot of commas.
As well, I had a chance to sneek into Kate's rehearsal tonight. While the piece is being prepared for Fringe in Toronto, the process is a beautiful one. I'm excited to have her piece proceed the trip our audience will take.

Starting the search for the perfect costumes and finding many a packages o' bits and bites.

Do you know a flight attendant? Please connect me to them - I would love to hear stories and gain more insight! Another rehearsal tomorrow with Toan and Christy. We await Tara, who will travel here from Edmonton and learn all of the material - in one day. Merde.

What I've started...

I think I've started something. I'm still figuring it out. Can I say that? I think I will be saying that for a while.
I'm gearing up for Edmonton Fringe.
I have amazing dancers on board and an idea. I would say I'm ok.
